Photographer Vladimir Telegin, who was arrested and charged with an administrative infraction for filming the March 31st protests, has successfully appealed the decision in a federal court. Moreover, in a surprising turn of events, the judge declared the March 31st protest legal and the police action to disperse it unlawful. According to the court ruling:

The participants of the event have followed due procedure in notifying the St. Petersburg city administration of the event. Documents submitted to the court show that the event has not been banned or suspended by the city administration.

Therefore, the police officers’ demands for the citizens to disperse were ungrounded.

Leonid Nikolaev, who spent the day being questioned by a public prosecutor at the Investigations Committee, describes the prosecutor’s reaction to the news:

They asked me whether I knew anything about the judge who’d heard Telegin’s case. The prosecutor had to call the court or perhaps someplace else, to find out whether the news was true and what he was supposed to do now. I think he was in shock.
